An emergency room visit should be at the forefront should any of the following symptoms be observed: significant breathing rate increase, halting in suckling or feeding for no apparent other reason, skin between child’s ribs becomes pulled tight, chest enlargement, general colouring changes, cry changes to become more frequent but softer and shorter, nasal flaring, or grunting.
